Blogs, Wikis, Podcasts….Chapters I & II

Technology has taken our society by storm over the last few years; It has changed the way we work , the way we learn, and the way we communicate. Chapter I in Blogs, Wikis, Podcasts, and other Powerful Web Tools for Classrooms by Will Richardson discusses various technologies from Weblogs to Social networking sites. Children of today are known as the “digital generation” and most students are more advanced with technology than their teachers. Richardson reveals in chapter I that his book will focus on helping educators learn the web on a personal level and show ways in which teachers can use technology to enhance their students’ learning.

Chapter II discusses Weblogs and how powerful it is to be able to easily share resources and ideas with Web audiences that are willing to share back. Chapter II also talks about how teenagers use sites such as facebook and myspace recklessly. Blogs can be dangerous and I feel that it is very important that parents monitor what their children are doing on the web. On the flip side weblogs can enhance and deepen learning on an educational stance. Class Portals, Online Filing Cabinets, E-Portfolios and Collaborative Space are great ways to implement technology in the classroom. It also gives teachers a way to assign work, collect work, as well as allow students to collaborate with one another.

Great book so far I will post more info periodically!
